ACD Friends,

Attached are photos of Houston car collector John O'Quinn's Duesenberg's at the conclusion of The Mildred Invitational last Sunday afternoon. Many people asked when the cars were going to be removed from the display and we actually had a large and enthusiastic crowd waiting to see all the cars run. The Beaumont police department enthusiastically got into the act by blocking Calder Avenue (formerly Oil Millionaires Row.) They wanted to see the cars run too!! Special thanks to Darla Lexington, Gayla Miller and Martin Franco of Mr. O'Quinn's organization for their early and enthusiastic support and committment to return bigger and better in '07.

A number of other ACD members were in attendance including James Bartlett (with his beautiful 1929 Packard roadster), Lee Brown and John Alkire (with their 1910 Bianchi Landaulet Limousine.)

Robert Markham brought his 1936 Graham Supercharger, Ron Stein his 1936 British Standard, Robert Couch his 1928 Chevrolet roadster. Broussard's Mortuary displayed their 1882 horse drawn hearse and 1938 Packard Henney Hearse. My three oldest children hopped right in the Packard hearse when yours truly had to return it to it's garage. They were also thrilled when Alkire and Brown offered them an extended rided in the '10 Bianchi.

Our Friday night invitational gala was attended by over 150 of the regions leading collectors and citizens. The highlight of the night was dessert by moonlight on the roof promenade of The Mildred.

One of the highlights of the public show was Stein's authentic WWII British Air Raid siren. One WWII veteran actually shed some tears when it blared! He had a great time explaining to the children what it meant to him.

Bluebonnet Farm once again put on a stunning saddlebred horse exhibition.

We are off to an auspicious start and now have the enthusiastic support of the Mayor of Beaumont, TX, city council, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Beaumont Mainstreet Commission, and Chamber of Commerce. I've already located a calliope for next years show!

I hope you will consider visiting my hometown of Beaumont, TX which has been described as The Museum Capital of Texas. When there visit The Fire Museum of Texas, Texas Energy Museum, McFaddin-Ward Home, Art Museum of SE Texas, Historic Crockett Street Entertainment District, John J. French Trading Post, Gladys City Boomtown Museum, Historic 1926 Jefferson Theatre (Best restoration in Texas 2005), and many, many other museums and historic attractions.

Our attendees were blown away with the range of interesting things that will appeal to my fellow car collectors. We made a few mistakes this year and learned a lot!! Plans for next year include a historic home tour, auction, casino trips, and many, many other interesting activities.
