Nope. Cords had a normal gearset with normal synchronizers. The Wilson gearboxes are planetary with bands and stuff.

I guess I was barking up the wrong tree then.

I assumed that all pre-selectors were cousins under the casing.

Wasn't it a Wilson pre-selector used in Cord 810/812's?

Either way, I have options they just aren't cheap ones.

Thanks for the reply.

Hope you find someone soon.

FYI there is not the slightest resemblance between the innards of a Wilson epicyclic (planetary, in US terms) gearbox and the one in the Cord. The only similarity is the shape of the gear selector on the column.

Actually, the American car with a transmission most like the Wilson is the Model T Ford!

Hi,

I recently acquired a 1953 Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire with a Wilson pre-selector transmission that has been giving me trouble.

Obviously the car has nothing to do with A-C-D cars but the transmission is related to those used in Cords and perhaps Auburns? So, I was hoping someone out there might know of someone who might have the expertise to re-build one of these or in an ideal world someone that might be close by to me (Ferndale, WA) that could pay me a visit and help me sort out why I have no neutral and a malfunctioning reverse.

I have been getting on-line help from the British A-S club expert but since he is 8,000 miles away it has been difficult.

Any leads would be appreciated. Ferndale is about 20 minutes south of the Canada border next to I-5 so perhaps there might be someone in Vancouver BC?

Thanks,

Craig
