Look two posts above you, Jim.

I imagine Ken Clark's beating a path to the owner's door by now... :D

Seriously though its missing carb. sidemounts and hardwear, cigar lighter, map light, broken tail light lenses, front bumper etc, etc, etc, but its 98% complete!!! Guy was asking 30K and no takers. It's good for parts and the good ones are gone. If someone restores it they will be so upside down it won't be funny. Cost as much to restore as a open car and worth half as much.
CORDially Mike

If he was asking 30 with no takers then I'm really sure about the 40k. I can't tell you how many times a car that was for sale privately for a long time goes through an auction for more.

It just doesn't look like a "clean-er-up-and-drive-er" kind of barn find to me. It looks more like the "finally, an engine for that Cabriolet!" kind of barn find...

I'm not saying I'm happy about that...but knowing that auction catalog car photography is flattering 99.9% of the time, I have my doubts about this poor old L-29.

When I go to shows, it seems that there is always a barn fresh old car that the owner has cleaned really well and done just enuff to get it safely drivable. No new paint, nothing restored, just good tires, brakes, and a driveline that goes.
And it seems that these cars always have the biggest crowd around them.

If I had that L29, or Kermits old unrestored speedster, that what I would do. :D

10-15 years ago, same car was sitting in a different building, buried up to it's axles in mud, and sitting running board to running board with a lot of other makes in similar condition.
Neat car, and would like to have one in such condition, but not sure how it could be cost justified to restore.. needs EVERYTHING redone, plus, with premium having to be paid at auction to get the car in the first place.

"barn find" cars carry a premium. Everybody falls in love with the notion of "untouched" for 60 years. I think this might surprise everyone with a stronger price. I'll say closer to 40k.

Well, Here is a pic for you.

I don't know what to bid, I did so poorly on the last fantasy bid thing. But I suppose I'll guess $31, 512.

L29 CORD FANTASY BIDDING was created by sunroofcord
I recently received a Kruse Auction Catalog for the upcoming Brandon Plantation Auction in Murray Kentucky Sept. 14-16 2007.

In the catalog was an L29 Cord with the following description;

(Hopefully Bill will post the picture I sent him since I don't know how to)

I thought it would be fun to have a fantasy bidding contest on this amazing find like the guys have been doing with the Duesenbergs.

Anyone have a starting bid????

Jim

Cord L29 Brougham 53,000 original Miles ? original upholstery ? Two original diamond tread double white wall tires ? original engine ? very little rust ? been in storage since 1941 - this car is 98% complete ? was purchased by Mr. Brandon over 30 yrs. Ago from a farm near Murray, KY ? A wealthy Couple from Nebraska in 1937 was on their way to Florida. They were coming through Mayfield, KY and this car quit running. They called the local Cadillac Dealer J.T. Hale Motor Company and had the car towed. Mechanics were unable to get the car to run and were unable to repair it. The car was traded for a new Cadillac and the people went on to Florida. The Cord was parked in the rear of the dealers used car lot. Mr. Gaylon Hargrove, a self taught mechanic, was dismissed from the third grade for drawing steam engines during class. Mr. Hargrove was a man that could fix anything. The following week he noticed this car on the lot and liked the car because it was unusual. After being told several times that the car would not run Mr. Hargrove insisted he would buy the car. After paying $55.00 Dollars for the car he went home and got his tools. After just 30 minutes he had it running and drove it home. He continued driving this car until 1941 and it has been stored ever since. SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY
