Hi Kim,

There is so much that you can learn about Duesenbergs, it is an exciting journey! But you will only scratch the surface by surfing the web.

I reccommend that you go on amazon and buy every book there is about Duesenbergs:

The pursuit of perfection by Fred Roe
The Mightiest American Motorcar by J.L. Elbert
Illustrated Duesenberg Buyer's Guide by Josh B. Malks
Duesenberg by Dennis Adler
The Duesenberg by Louis William Steinwedel and J. Herbert Newport
Auburn Cord Duesenberg by Don Butler
Errett Loban Cord: His Empire, His Motor Cars by Griffith Borgeson

Yes, you will have to spend some $, but it will be well worth it.

The chassis #'s were stamped on the frame and the firewall, and were a 4 digit number. The engine #, often called the J number, all started with J, then had 3 numbers. The J number was stamped on the bellhousing and the crankshaft. They are 2 seprate sets of numbers, and right from the begining, there was mixing up of many of the numbers by the factory and by owners.

Duesenberg generally provided the chassis with the firewall, radiator, drill, fenders, etc. In some cases, the chassis was shipped to the body manufacturers, finished there and then sent to the buyer or dealer. Sometimes the body was shipped to the Duesenberg factory and finished there.

Check out my Duesenbergs video's:

Have fun and good luck!

No No. I need alot of knowledge about the Duesenberg. First. I need to know about the numbers game. why do the chassis numbers do not match the engine numbers. Second. Is it true that none of the cars had paint codes. And finally. How did they deliver the chassis/engines and did they deliver them with fenders, hood & radiator ?. Any info., pictures are a plus. And thanx in advance of any info. Kim
