In my reply under Club Info, I said it should be one piece. Also, should be the same color as the body. Better to paint it separately from the car using an additive ( softener) that allows the welt to bend without cracking the paint

Hi Bill,
The fender welt on my Phaeton is one continuous piece that goes around the bumper brackets and continues down the fender. I cannot vouch for the originality but it would seem to be the better way to run the welt.
Best regards,
Bill Kastanis

Rear fender welt was created by wcoye
Getting ready to send my Westchester out for a quality paint job. Are the rear fender welts one continuous piece or split as in the photo ? Somewhere along the line a pair of incorrect boots were installed and welt was hacked away. Darn photo is upside down . Note the plastic patch . The slot the bumper support goes through was elongated for no apparent reason. Fortunately, the missing metal is still there , hammered out of the way.
