Hi Matt,
I sent you a PM.
Hi Joe,
I would highly appreciate any photo of unrestored cars in "barn find" or "survivor" condition, especially in case you took them yourself and would allow me to publish them on my web site. Thanks a lot in advance!
As for my book, it deals with one former car collection only. This french collection of 50+ rotten Bugattis, Cords, Aston Martins, Alfa Romeos, Lincolns, etc. became famous as the "Sleeping Beauties" in the early 1980s. E.g. Automobile Quarterly published the famous photos in issues 22-2 and 25-2. Together with two friends I investigated the story behind these stunning photos and the fate of the single cars.
Unfortunately there was no Adler in this collection, sorry!
Best regards
Kay Hottendorff

I used to see Bob Snowden's Cord, for many years, when he brought it to our Antique Airplane Club of Greater NY meetings, in Eastern Long Island. Knew Bob fairly well. So, Im sure I must have a dozen or so photos of the car from the 1970s and 1980s-BEFORE the days of the Internet, and digital photo files I am sure they are in some of the boxes with our old photos of vintage autos, race cars & aircraft. I shall keep an eye out for Cord photos, in future sorting attempts..
Your book, and the samples, seems an intriguing fresh perspective on the old "barn finds." Does it perhaps, include any information and updated photos on the pre-WWII Adler Rennlimousine, as found and bought fom the estate in Pennsylvania, a few years ago? When my father owned and restored it, (see my website) it was in nice condition, and featured in several auto sport magazines. The photos of the paint-stripped, and rough body shape, as found in the Pennsylvania collection, in recent years, looked pretty rough, but all there, at least. I think I helped the current owners with some serial #s and the little info I could remember..

Hello Kay,
I read your article in the "Motor Klassik" magazine about your own "Sleeping Beauty" an unrestored Cord 812 s/c Beverly. Congretulations to both!
On one hand; I like your approach to keep the car in its unrestored ("Sleeping Beauty"-) Condition, but on the other hand; I think that car is for to use and show it (as it is), I hope you will try to fix up the needed technical issues to get the car street legal for Germany
I would like to see that car (as it is) on the road
Cheers
Matt

Hello,
I am not a Cord owner myself but I am helping the current owner of this car, who unfortunately does not read or write English, to get the car as close to original specification as possible. In view of this I have the following questions:
1. Can someone tell me how the rubber that seals the windscreen frame against the soft top should look like and who might supply this?
2. Cam timing: Please help me to time the camshaft please. On the cam are three markings, a cicle and two notches. How/were do they have to point when positioning the no. 1 piston at TDC?
3. We have problems to open/close the top correctly. Can someone supply pictures or drawings of the topframe?
Any assistance is highly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance:
Thomas Willig
@Kay: No, you definetly do not know all readers personally
I've got your book too. The "Sleeping Beauties" accompaied me for many years, as I used to know the late Herbert Hesselmann quite well during the time he took the pictures of them.

I know this car very well. It was owned by Bob Snowden of Long Island. It was purchased by Bruce Earlin and myself about 1992. The serial # 2155H and delivered to the original owner residing in a town on Long Island near Oyster Bay NY. It was palm beach tan when new, latter the front fenders were painted black There is a dash plaque on the right side with the NY dealers name on it either the NYC dealer or the Queens Blvd Auburn dealer. My first Cord (2167 H) was delivered from the same store, and incidentally was listed in the engineering change list as the first Cord to use the tee bolts on the grill and also painted palm beach tan. Those hood ornamentations were added while in Germany or England.

I think the port holes in the hood do it no favors.
That said, I am really enjoying your book.

Phaeton in Germany was created by Kay
There seems to be an 810 Phaeton for sale near Hamburg, Germany:
suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/an ... ommend_DES
I'm not the seller and do not have any relation to him. To me the restoration doesn't look very "close to original", and the asking price is extremely high: 218,900 Euro which equals 287,000 USD.
What do you think ?
Regards
Kay
