Cigarette cream debate

Hello all,

I recently purchased a copy of Esquire magazine from 1937, in order to cull a Cord 812 advertisement from it. Whilst rummaging through I came across a colour advertisement for Old Gold cigarettes, so I scanned it. The colour of the packet was rumoured to be the source of what became 'Cigarette Cream', is it not?



Quite a bit darker than you'd expect, don't you think?

I've just voted on the cigarette cream poll,and think that #8 is about right. Before I repainted my rhd phaeton I found behind one of the fenders,where it fixes to the chasis an unmolester example of the cars origional paint colour,cigarette cream,and on one of my colour charts produced by Stan Gilliland and the Acme paint company it is listed as #43,which is a good match to my car.
I think that this colour is meant to represent the discolouration caused by cigarette smoke on white paintwork on ceilings in bars or other places.
