So I continue the challenge -- Does anyone own or know of a Cord 810 or 812 with untampered wires (for sure) or does anyone have a photograph of an 810 or 812 taken in the production era that shows oak-with-tracers spark plug wires? They would show up even on a b&w photo. (Yes, the early engine used in brochures has them, but it also has all sorts of non-production accessories. We're looking for a production car.)
What do you win? I will shut up on the subject

The photo from Philippe Stettler above is from a Cord S/C convertible coupe owned by Fredy Bieri of Switzerland and the car is in my shop to fix different issues and to get it back on the road (the car was previously owned by Pierre Trachsler from Geneva Switzerland). The engine which can be seen in the picture is an FB engine overhauled by George Arakelian a couple of years ago (the original FC engine has a cracked block!) . The wires look old but still fine and I do not know if they are original. You may contact George, perhaps he knows more

My position on Cord wires at this point is based on first-hand information from JK Howell. He said that he had never seen an original car with the colorful wires. Stan Gilliland says that Auto-Lite manufactured most of the spark plug wire used on the 810/812, and that they sold them in three colors. He has seen original untampered Cords with dark maroon and black, but only photographs of cars with the multi-color wire. Stan does point out that the background color of the latter wire, as sold by Auto-Lite was oak, not yellow.
My guess is that Auburn ordered wire as they needed it, and installed whatever Auto-Lite sent. Probably mostly maroon and black. And yes, one cannot rule out the possibility that Auto-Lite sent oak with tracer sometimes.
ACD Club judges some years ago agreed to accept oak-with-black-and-red-tracer as authentic to avoid controversy and because there was no way to prove that production cars used [u:3tt7m10x]only[/u:3tt7m10x] maroon or black.
My interest remains the same. Does anyone have a photo taken in 1936-37 that shows oak-with-tracer spark plug wires?

Before any of us rush out and mix some maroon lacquer (to paint our wires), can our cheif judge and the other marque experts/historians discuss what colour ignition wires were used on the Auburn in '35 and '36 as well as early and late Cords ? If Auburn's used different colour wires, why ? Are there any Auburn supplier records that can be referenced.
There are a few low mileage cars in existence and it would seem prudent to do some investigation before formulating any potential conclusions. To jump to the conclusion that any sole colour is correct, would it not be reasonable to find both early and late low mileage unmolested cars and compare the colour of ingition wires.
On the practical side, are we really suggesting that all Cord ignition wires came from one spool ? Or that all spools of ignition wire had to be checked for the correct colour or they would be returned to the supplier and that car production would halt because of ignition wire colour.
I am however looking for a reasonable process to make conclusions on and to ensure that the conclusions are supportable. I'm also influenced by the contents of the three or longer page thread on the wheel colours, which I'm not convinced resolved that other possible wheel colours were not provided at the factory.
It seems reasonable that maroon ignition wires were used in addition to what other colours.

I know of no source for maroon (or I'd use them myself.) Many, many years ago I got a roll of maroon spark plug wire from JK Howell, and refitted my Cord. (I think I still have a snippet somewhere.) So unless some later owner threw it away thinking it was not "authentic", there is at least one 810 Westchester out there with correct maroon wires.
