Thanks, EL I have put them into a tank of penetrating oil to see if that will make a difference before going further. I'll keep you posted.

If only the outside wire is the problem causing rotation , I will be able to fix the problem if you want to send them to me. Cost is 150.00 and takes about 3 hours You must have a lathe and a fixture to load the cable and wind at the same time. Also the wire has to be wound tight.

I'll take a close look at mine today. I sounds as though there must be a problem with that outer cable. I, too would be interested in how E L repaired the cables. Phillip, the cables came with the car when I purchased it. It came in boxes. It has been a great puzzle to put this Cord together.

Hi EL, how do you replace the two most outer spiral wirelayers ( one winded to the left, the other winded to the right )?
Actually there is the turning soul( cable ) then the larger spiral and on top of that the two layers of thin wires .
In my case, on one of my cables, the two layers of spiralwires are rusted through and broke off in the middle und have unwinded so i had to cut them off in the knowledge of needing to replace, i was looking for a specialist to do it but haven't found one yet, is there a way to do it my self ? If so, would you mind giving me a detaild advise, please ?

Hello, If the spiral wire is broken on the outside they will not turn easy. I have repaired several of these with new wire and they work in either direction. The outside wire is what keeps the cable from unwinding and therefore jamming the ends

I sort of suspected they need to travel both diractions but wan't sure if there was a catch mechanism that would trip them into turning backwards. I am assembling the car so they are out and have been that way since I bought them. I can't tell if they both turn the same directions as it depends which end is used. Both ends look alike to me. I plan on keeping them but need to figure out what is stopping them both from turning only in 1 direction.

Hi Mike, at the moment i deal a lot with the topic of healight mechanisme. Actually the cables have to turn left and right with no difference if seperated from the headlight assembley and the handcrank assembley. Possably the cablesoul starts to unwind inside, hench you can turn them only in one direction. Do both turn in the same direction ?
Are they fitted to the car ?
In the handlegear just behind the dashfacia there is a spring mounted to keep the windingcables in position rotation wise, but with a light push schould overcome this. Would the cables be for sale ? I might be interested to buy.
In either case please send me pic's to my direct e-mail-address :

I have 2 cables that turn very easily in one direction but not back again. They do not seem bound up inside. Nevertheless, I presume this is incorrect . Can someone enlighten me about this? Thanks.
