Thanks for the information. This was a dumb mistake on my part but at least we caught it before it was to late. I was really hoping that since it was a snug fit that the drive assembly would stay in place.

Thanks again

Yes, you will have to have the screw in place. Otherwise the dist drive will eventually slide down and disengage from the dist. Although the drive assembly fits snug in the block, the gear mesh of the helical gear forces the shaft down. A possibility would be to prevent the slide by putting a stop on the oil pump shaft . However , you probably don't want to put a vertical load and the oil pump shaft

Hi David,

Can you be a little more specific on what set screw you are talking about. Are you on the engine oil pump?
Is it the set screw for the oil pressure releif valve?
The set screw for the oil pump drive shaft bushing assembly?
The set screws for the rocker arm shafts?

Pretty much all of these are critical and need to be installed.

Jim

This is a stupid question but I must ask. I'm afraid we may have assembled engine and transmission and forgotten set screw for oil pump drive assembly. Is this a critical part or will it work without. I'm thinking I will have to take apart and install set screw but maybe not?

Thanks
