The ashtray that Bob pictured above is the ashtray in the Cord I have but the ashtray is in the dash where the steering wheel shaft would go if the car was RHD (in the lower right corner of the turned dash panel would be if the panel was square). Anyone seen this placement before? I can't find a pic of it at the moment.

Mike, that's great! Looking forward to the electronic versions of the newsletter.

I like the options. They add character to a car. The ashtray in particular speaks well to its era, one in which a good smoke while at the wheel was more important than having a radio!

That's indeed a good topic for Restoration Guidelines. (I kinda think, tho, that nearly every "concours-restored" Cord will boast a radio, not an ashtray.)

In the meantime, there's a description and photo of the radio head-replacing ashtray in "Cord Complete".

The ashtray-options could well be a subject of restauration guide-lines and would be nice to see all factory or dealer ashtrays for Cord 810/812 with good pic's on one or two pages, as this questions might be interesting to anyone who want's he's car perfectley restored.

The radio was an option in 1936. It could be installed at the factory or by the dealer. There WAS a factory-provided round ashtray that fit in the vacant radio head hole.

Hi! I don't have one but I have seen more than one that fit into the hole where the radio head usually goes. I have no official history of why, but it sure looked like i was an original piece, on each of the several cars. This was back in the late '50s, so I don't think it was an aftermarket addition. Ric.

My 37 812 Phaeton has an ashtray in place of the radio head, I was told many years ago that they were made as a project by a club member in the 60's, to my knowledge there was NEVER a factory ash tray to replace the radio head. The one I have is flat, fills the opening and is engine turned to match the dash.

If you go to page 8 of the No. 5 issue of the Newsletter for 2003 you will see a picture of the ash tray which was furnished by Gail Shaw. This is the one that replaced the radio.

Both are incorrect, I had a supercharged phaeton in 1980 that had the correct ash tray, hopefully I can get it posted here.

When I got my Cord 810 Cabriolet, I had an ashtray where the radio head should be.

Not all Cords had radios. Here is what my dash looked like when I bought the car. You can see that I have come a long way!

The faceplate of your ashtray is not correct.

Cord 810/812 dashboard ashtray was created by oldbanger71
Is this realy a genuine factory Cord 810/812 ashtray, fitted to the dashboard instead of the standard radio dial and controlbuttons ?
Or is it a accessory ashtray that somebodey has fitted later?

Has somebodey ever seen such a ashtray in a other Cord ?
I'm wondering if somebodey has informations about this ashtray.
I'm willing to learn.........
