Hi,

Been there, but in a GM car. My immediate "usual suspect" is the electric fuel pump. Is it one of those vertically-mounted AC/Clone pulse-style click-click-click-click-click diaphram pumps? If so, my guess is that you'll find a pin hole in one crease of the bellows of the rubber diaphram. One pinhole = no consistent pressure.

As for having "been there," my suspicion is based on experience--my 4000# LaSalle was immobile and immovable in the intersection of Telegraph and Ford (That's the crossroads of the world in Detroit, folks) at 4:00 on a summer Friday afternoon. Both roads are 8 lanes--jammed. I heard whole new dimensions of cussing that day! And the cause? A pin hole in the 6V pulse style AC electric fuel pump.

The car has had a rotary pump ever since. You can get a lifetime warranted high quality 6V rotary pump at most auto stores.

Marc, First look at previous page 3 ."vapor lock problem solved" posted Oct 6, 2008 @ 7:59PM . Then "810 vapor lock problem " posted Aug 23,2008 @ 1:35PM. Then probably the best thing to do is get a new six volt coil MADE FOR AN EIGHT CYLINDER CAR . Install that temporarily & see if that fixes the problem. Henry

Is cool or hot invioment affecting your problem?
Be sure your fusebox is well monted and likewise all electic terminals tight, see also that the breather in your fiultankcap or extra breather on tank is free, fit a fiulfilter just after the tank to make sure the succtionpipe is not temporarly clogged, it might be that you would have to remove your tank thoroughy derusted ( NO SANDBLASTING ) and get it seald with a tanksealer, flush your pipes and carburator.
If this don't help it might be a good idea either to protect your fiulpipes with wrapping or rerouting and last thing would be a fiulpipebreather close to the carb to avoid vapor lock.

only my two cents and other members might have a better idea.

Good luck, PHilipp <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

The more i know, the more i realize that i don't know enough.

Cord won't keep running? was created by marcjones45
Hello Everyone!
I've got a gremlin in my Cord that's got me stumped. I'll start it and it runs real nice, but when I try to drive it, the motor (without any notice) will shut down, and will not start again until the car is completely cooled off. It might go 100 ft., it might go a couple of miles. The car is a 1937 812 Supercharged Custom Beverly. Its all stock, except for a 6-volt electric fuel pump. Does anyone have any ideas??
Thank you!
