OOPS
I incorrectly stated the sizes of the crankshaft bolts. They should be 7/16 and 9/16. Hope it did not cause problems

Very interesting George, How do you keep the weld spatter off the journals? I presume the crank is balanced after the weight attaching screws have their heads welded.
CORDially Mike

Cranks were bolted and welded. The bolt tops are welded to the weight to keep them from un-screwing. These were special bolts that the head twisted off at a set torque. You will have to cut the weld and un-scew the bolts or run an end mill down the center to cut off the head. Use 3/8 and 7/16 allen cap screws to re- attach the weights. Re- weld the heads and the sides of the weight just as they were.

Restoring my 1937 Phaeton S/C, I am now starting to work on the engine.
My crankshaft counter weights are welded to the shaft. By the way, a beautiful welding job. Did they come welded from the factory? or was this done by some repairshop later on?
I have to remove the counter weights to restore the crankshaft. Once this is done the right way to put the counter weights back is to screw them only? Or also to weld them again?
