I emailed the guy and he doesn't really know about the car. I think it is a consignment place selling it for somebody. He said it is titled as a Cord Westchester. Maybe it has a Hup front end and started out as a Cord. Whatever the case, its ugly and I cant believe somebody bid $75,000 for it. Wonder what the reserve was that he didn't get. At least it was fun to talk about.

Hi,

There is one way to see if it is a Cord, Hupp or Graham and that is to measure the wheelbase. Cord (standard body) is 125" and the Hupp and Graham (if my memory serves me right) is 118". But with all of that, one could still adapt a Cord stub frame to a H or G. I have seen this done in the past and the builder use a standard Cord hood and fence assembly. The only give away was the late model V-8 engine! I guess it pays to keep the hood closed!

CORDially,

Al Hatch

The difference was in the hood grill not the lower grills.

The car started life as a Graham or Hupp for sure. You will never know which without seeing the tags as the only visible difference between the two was the chrome grill (Graham) vs painted for the Hupp.

I may be in the minority but I have always liked the nose of the Graham.

I think you are right Al. Is that a Graham logo on the dash board. The oval piece in the middle of the dash. Does anybody recognize that piece?

I have to agree with you , Tom.. I've seen this hundreds of times before when a customizer decides to "update" a classic design. The result just gets uglier and uglier.

I was concerned that my earlier postings about Hupp Skylarks might have worn out their welcome, but the questions about and relationships between the 810/812 Cord and the subsequent Hupp and Graham cars continue to be of interest to ACD enthusiasts.

This car has been so radically altered that no one may ever know what it started out as. With the availbility of after-market serial number plates I suppose it could have started out as a Cord, Hupp, or Graham.

In any event, my opinion is that the only certain thing about it is that the customizer sure uglied up what started out as a beautiful car. <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

Hi,

I would say you are right. At one time, I had a '41 Hupp Skylard that sat beside my 812 Beverly Cord. It may a nice display! But the car featured in the ebay ad could also be a Hollywood Graham. The hood and lower grille openings look to be either Hupp or Graham.

At any rate, it is an interesting take on the Cord design. What do you think Gordon Buehrig would say?

Has anyone looked on Ebay under 1937 cord and see that white thing they are calling a Westchester. Tell me if I am wrong but it looks like a 1940 Hupmobile Skylark to me. Take a look. I dont think the guy knows what he has. I tried to tell him, but he said I was wrong.
