Re-reading my post, I noted that my last note wrt Josh Malks book could be misunderstood.

The book was published end of 1995 and of course the list with the car/engine serial numbers has been carefully put together with the best knowledge at that time, i.e. today (14 years later) with all the restorations having gone on worldwide since the publication some smaller corrections may be needed (some engines may have gone in another car). These are the "errors" I meant.

I recommend the book to everybody which is interested in the Cord 810/812 (it is out of print but may be found on ebay or on amazon "used book resellers" or have a look at Josh Malks new book "Cord Complete" (see www.cordcomplete.com ) which will be out this summer.

Hello Jason, and welcome to the forum. You would do well to join the ACD Club at the earliest opportunity. You may do so on line.

As needs arise to make repairs on your car-to-be, remember that this car was built as a 1936. Especially when it comes to brake parts, you will need to have a mind-set that it is a 36, not a 37. Your brakes will be Lockheed/Wagner brakes, and not Bendix, and as they are not interchangeable you will need to take some care in ordering parts.

There is no vaccination or cure for your attraction to the Cord 810/812. It is an addiction you will just have to (happily) live with. Enjoy the ride.

:D

I would strongly reccommend that you have your self a careful look at the car or have someone reliably to look at it who knows what he does such as well educated ACD-members this will pay off very soon- i can tell.
Keep a cool head even though i can very well understand that you fell in love with it, mechanicly it's a complex car. When you get it shipped to you, make sure all the loose parts are listed, photographed and packed in one box that is well closed in a way nothing gets lost or stolen on the way and have the car well documented for dents, scraches and other blemishes and do the same when it gets in your hands. So i wish you a good deal and that you will get what you hope for !

Join the ACD-club ! best regards Oldbanger71 <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

The more i know, the more i realize that i don't know enough.

According to the data in Josh Malks book "The Timeless Classic" the Cord Hyman is selling is an unsold 1936 810 "renamed" 812 by the factory. The engine is out of a 1936 810 Westchester (FB 1027), and according to the same data Serial # 1145A had originally engine FB1114 in. You may ask Hyman for the body number, it should be C 90 968 (Westchester Sedan).
(note: the data in Josh Malks book may contain errors)
CORDially Mario

I would highly recommend to join the ACD club so that you get all the time the proper information.

Cord 812 Provenance enquiry was created by Jason
Hi Folks,

I am considering purchasing the Cord 812 Westchester Sedan currently on sale from Hyman Autos. They tell me they only have history back to 89 and I was wondering if anybody knows more about the provenance of the car. I am in the UK, have recently fallen head over heals in love with the Cord 810/812 but do not want to end up buying a dog. Any help appreciated.

Kind Regards

Jason
