My first Cord had these on both sides. It's a plate to cover the holes in the sides where the block was broken by freezing. If carefully done it works.

JK Howell used to sell a cast repair plate with the petcock boss cast into it (and drilled and tapped.)

I'm sure it is a repair of the side of the engine. these engines had a bad problem with the sides of the engine and this is one of the many ways that was used to tried and fix. as long as it is not cracked internally and it does not leak externally it will be OK. Just not pretty.

Can someone tell me is this a modification or past problem?
