Scott, thanks much for posting that. Jim, looking forward to seeing your photos. The posting instructions take a little practice to master.

The car looks infinitely better from the side.

Bill Hummel has put excellent instructions on posting pictures in the GALLERY section of the ACD club website. Click on GALLERY from the ACD Club home page.

This particular Cord was once owned by Don Mates "Dr. Flywheel" of Chicago. Don told me the whole history of the car which I have written down somewhere. As I recall, Don told me this car and one other car were part of the Homer Fitterling collection and sat on the side of the road some where in Indiana in this condition from the late '40s to 1962.

When Don bought his Phaeton from the Homer Fitterling Collection, he had to take this car and another hulk too. Don owned both cars from 1962 to around 2001 when he sold them to a fellow from California who tries to pass off the one in the picture as a factory prototype.

This fellow has been trying to sell them as a pair for several years at an highly inflated price. The trunk on the one pictured is supposed to be from a '39 or '40 Buick. The car was featured in an old ACD newsletter as well as a 1999 issue of Special Interest Autos. I will have to check my records to see which issues exactly.

I have several photos of this Cord that I took in October of 2004 that I would be more then happy to post if I knew how. I can see that the car is still in the same place as it has been since Dr. Flywheel stored them there around 1963.

The other image is more of a front view.

Anyone willing to post photos they may have, for those of us with an incomplete library? :)

I personally like it, of course the "bustle back" doesn't bother me either. If it was "in period" modifications by someone like Alex Tremulis then it would certainly be worth saving.

This looks like a Cord which was pictured some time back in an earlier Newsletter. There were a number of other Cords which had modifications none of which were an improvement. I believe it was considered to have been done by Alex Tremulis.

Interesting. I see exactly the opposite. In my opinion it's much smoother in execution, wrapping nicely around to the side of the car. Whereas the actual production version looks like the afterthought that it was.

Same here, but of the two "humps," I like the Custom-style better. The one in the photo looks a little off-balance.

Ahhh. You burst my bubble. I thought it looked better than the production version... not that I like either very much. I'm a slant-back fan.

A poorly executed attempt at adding luggage space?

There's a comment on the thread about the car having another trunk, inside that trunk--as in, the outer trunk opens to reveal the normal Cord deck underneath, I guess? I can't imagine why the second trunk lid would have been left in place, unless you wanted to keep the two trunks separate.
