Oh, well. Who's gonna know?

Incidentally, have you ever seen the movie where Boston Blackie escapes from bad guys driving an Auburn ambulance thru city streets?

I discovered something interesting. Sometimes, standing on the square after the parade, I have wondered what I am doing here (for the fortieth time, or whatever). After all, I've seen most of the cars, I've seen the Museum, I've even seen the auction. Not being there this once I realized why I go. It's none of those things. It's my friends, long-time and recent. And that's really whatl I missed about Auburn. But I'll try not to miss it again.

See y'all next year![/quote]

Josh:
Beautifully stated.

Mike, that is great research! (Now you need a life-size Chester Morris cutout to sit in the seat.)

Hi Josh, We have interviewed many old time club members and there are two things they all say, ( it's not the cars it's the people and for the most memerable moment it was there cross country trip) If they made one of course.
Members who don/t particapate much miss the biggest part of the club, FRIENDS.
By the way Joan and I are in Madison WI. doimng reasearch at the WI. Historical Sociaty. They have a large archives of old TV movies. Yeasterday we varified that my 35 Speedster was used as Boston Blackie's car in the Boston Blackie TV show in 1951. It was used in the very first episode. This has been suggested but now I can prove it.

Glad to hear that, Pat. This always was (at least until fifty years ago) a nice-running Cord. Much of the credit, of course, goes to Butch and Ray who also had to replace many of the parts that had been lost over the years of attempted restorations. Sounds like they did a fine job.

But I have a theory about Cords. If it ran well right from the factory, you can beat it, and dismantle it and abuse it and when you get it back together it runs well. Then there are cars that were a bit lemony to start. These you can give a full Pebble Beach restoration to and they will still be cantankerous and unreliable! :)

My hats off to Butch and Ray, and I'm looking forward to the photo op that Chris has suggested.

Josh, I thought I would let you know I drove this car at Auburn, and I was very impressed with its general manners of driving. It is easy to steer, has a very light clutch and runs smoothly (makes my S/C Custom seem awkward). This is the only other ACD car I have driven, but I can say Ray Sr. and his son Butch did a great job of putting this car back on the road. Without the advise and parts from fellow club members this car would still be in the state of restoration. In less than a year, the car was back on the road, and has been to 3 meets, and covered a number of road miles. I hope this encourages many more of us to complete cars and get them back on the road (including me).

I remember helping push a friend's full size Bronco all the way around a bowling alley parking lot... with the key off. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Josh, I just automatically assumed you never missed Auburn!

Hopefully there will be another chance to get the two cars side-by-side in the future. I was hoping you had been able to get a picture of two of your Cords (three if the white "lumpy coffee table book Cord," in its current guise, was also present) next to each other.

Hi Josh, The car would start easly but the starter went bad on the Hoosier Tour and it was pushed to start it until Pat brought them a spare starter at Auburn. See what you miss when you don't come to Auburn! But I bet that Twenty year Aniversary was worth it. See you next year.

Chris, I'll try again. Which two Cords. (I was not able to be in Auburn this year.)

And maybe someone will ask Butch. (Funny, it always started when I owned it. :))

Ask Butch (Ray Cloud Jr.) how many trips around the hotel parking lot it takes to push start a Cord....
And, what the first step is before trying to start a car...

If you mean the Cord and the Jag, Chris, no. In those days cameras were for vacations and special occasions. And who would have thought that the passing in the night of an old Cord and a used Jaguar would ever be of any interest?

Eddie Lehman's Cord was created by Josh Malks
A white Cord 810 Westchester won the Mayor's Trophy at Auburn this year. Well deserved. It had belonged to the late Ed Lehman. Eddie had always wanted to finish this car and bring it to Auburn, but just didn't make it. Ray Cloud restored this car in Eddie's honor.

What most members may not know is that this car, 810 1776A, was my own Cord #3. I owned it from 1955-58. It was my daily (and only) transportation. You can see it as I owned it, at [url:1oftv35d]http&#58;//www&#46;automaven&#46;com/My_Cords/1958/1958&#46;html[/url:1oftv35d] Yeah, and that's me 50 years ago.

Ed bought it from the Jag dealer in Plainfield NJ to whom I had traded it in partial payment for a 1954 Jaguar XK-120 roadster.
