Sorry to read about your vandalism problem, Brad. I sure hope that the judge makes the culprits pay for the damage. The worst case that I am personally aware of was a number of years ago when I attended a Concours in Toronto. A car collector from New York had arrived in the city the day before the show with a model A Ford with extremely rare wood spoke wheels. When he got up in the mornung at the hotel he was staying at, he discovered that someone had stolen one of his car's hubcaps. I don't know how you ever replace an item as scarce as this.

Not really a "stolen" item.. but, I do recall recently somene concerned about that removing a piece, putting it in a safe place... then forgetting where it was put... hmmmm.. wonder whom that could have been..

Until now, I have not been around when cars have been vandalized. I have heard about it however. I have even heard of people thrown out of the ACD Club for getting caught taking parts.

There's all types out there.

Mike H. suggested we cover our cars. Brad and I usually do. This night we were a little "under the weather" and neglected to do so.

Fortunately, they only defaced the trunk so it will be easy to repaint. The perpetrators have already been identified so Justice will be served.

It hasn't been a problem for me. My L-29 sets all over Auburn and on streets in many towns with the top down and no one has bothered it YET. There is always that chance, but I like driving it too much to leave it in the garage. But there have been parts missing off cars that the general public would not know about taking. Like the Dues. that when they went to drive it across the auction block was missing the Scheblor carb. that was on it the day before.

Eh it's a worse problem than you think--not really common, but it does occur. It's happened with Duesenbergs (both entire cars and parts) in the past, and a trim piece was stolen off a Franklin at Hershey last year. The sad part was, it was not a "pretty" piece that someone could have wanted as a souvenir...I believe it was a latch, something that could have been of use only to someone WITH a Franklin...

All hobbies have their bad apples. The car hobby is no exception.

Has parts theft been a problem at shows? I can't imagine classic car owners stealing from each other so it would have to be outside souvenir hunters instead. We have attended several out of town shows over the years and I've never worried about parts coming up missing. There always seems to be plenty of other car owners around looking out for each other. Or maybe we've just been lucky...

I just had to paint an entire side of my building to cover up graffiti. I'm glad they didn't go nuts on your car.

Joan and I Tour a lot and spend many nights in hotels and I cover my car with a lightweight rain proof cover. Rain is only one of the reasons and this is the other. A car covered is less vulnerable to parts theft and vandalism. Something to keep in mind.

Brad informed me that new paint will be required. The Marks-A-Lot altered the paint and has formed a permanent bond.

The car was recently painted so the paint should match perfectly. Fortunately, the grafitti was confined to the trunk.

That's terrible. I know firsthand how it feels to come out of a hotel in the morning and find our car MISSING. This had to be a close second. Hopefully it can be (or was) buffed off without paint work needed.

I spend half a year in a college dorm. I'm used to this kind of BS, although usually it doesn't happen to anything that valuable...

That's sad. Here's hoping they can accurately match the paint.

(Maybe Brad can make lemonade out of lemons, and hang a banner that says "OF THE JUDGES" below the graffiti...)

Inner City teenagers on a weekend outing stayed at the same motel as members of the ACD Club during this year's Texas Meet 2008.

They thought it would be fun to deface Brad Waken's 812 S/C Cabriolet with a Marks-A-Lot.

Fortunately, the kids destroyed the two rooms they were staying in. One of the tools they used was ... the same Marks-A-Lot.

This is the first time I have seen someone purposefully deface an auto in the six years that I have been a member.
