Do entrants have to reinstall National Rawhide leather grease seals to qualify original drivetrain?

Josh. In 2009 you won't have to wait any longer. I know of at least one L-29 that is making the trip, out and back! Any other ACD member with a ACD car, with original drivetrain, is invited. More info.will be forthcoming this summer.
CORDially Mike
We are even inviting the OTHER CORDS.

The last time four L-29s crossed the country was in April 1929. The last time four 810/812s did it was 2007. We're waiting. <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

Be careful when you put that dipstick in the transmission. Those 810/12 tyranny's are pretty fragile and the dipstick might break them.

Remove the tranny fill plug and drop the oil dipstick into the hole. NOTE: It may take several tries, since the stick has to slide past the shift rails just right. The stick must fall in of its own weight --- do not push it down. The original factory full mark on the dipstick is the correct level for the tranny fluid. (This works only with the original dipstick, or one with the dimple in the same location.)

Thanks Josh.
As usual, most helpful.

Any thoughts on the transmission oil level question?

The Cord V-8 takes [u:3owgxa0p]eight[/u:3owgxa0p] quarts of oil, not seven as indicated in the Owner's Manual. The original dipstick has a mark at about 6 1/8" from the stop at the top, indicating full. A punch mark at about 5 3/4" is correct. Best way to do this, next time you change your oil, is to put in 8 quarts, check the level after a while, then punch the dipstick at that level.

Oil level questions was created by Russell Colman
One of the few non-original items on my standard Cord 812 Phaeton appears to be the dipstick for the engine oil sump.

Result is I've never known exactly what level to keep the engine oil at.

If someone has an original dipstick, would they mind measuring the length from the stop-point at the top of the dipstick to the oil indicator marks on the stick, and letting me know how far down the stick the correct oil level markings should be?

I'm assuming there would be a max and min level mark?

It's a standard FB engine - not sure if this makes any difference.

Also, I've been told that the same dipstick marking/s can be used to check the transmission oil level when the filler plug is out. Is this correct?

Regards,
Russell Colman
