I called Hanna Rubber and was told their dia. material was resistant to oil, fuel, but didn't know about alcohol. It has a nitrile binder which is what buna-n is. Buna-n does not do well with fuel in O rings. They also didn't seem to know about it being used for fuel pump dia. Did I get the wrong sales person or what?

This is such a great example of how these Forums benefit us all. Guy #1 asks a question. #2 answers it. #3 asks a follow-up question. #4 answers it. All within two days. What a club!

On several occasions, I have made the diaphragm--quite simple. Remove the 10 screws around the top of the pump and remove the old diaphragm to use as a pattern. Can be done either with pump on car or removed. The later is easier for the central piston is in neutral position. Punch holes with leather punch. Pump diaphragm material can be obtained from Hanna Rubber in Kansas City. The newer material is impervious to the deleterious effects of ethanol. While you are at it, make a spare as back-up.

I have an AC model "D" fuel pump for a 812 custom Beverly, just like the one in the book (Cord owners companion). I need to replace the diaphragm. I have been told there is a number stamped on the flange where it mounts to the engine, but the pump had been resurfaced at some point and there is no number anywhere on the pump. Can anyone tell me where I can get a new diaphragm, a number for the pump, or a substitute material so I can make my own? There is a shop I found on the Internet, but they won?t even talk t me without the number!
