Russell, It occured to me that you may not have an origional c'mbr from the way you described it. The origional is a U shaped formed channel about 6" wide and about .125 thick. That really doesn't matter as long as it is a strong piece. Henry

Hi Russell, Any clearance should be OK ,it's usually a bit moore but that doesn't matter. Some guys even pad that area with rubber to try to stabilize the engine/trans mounting; feeling that this will help to eliminate shimmy. Henry

Transmission casing clearance was created by Russell Colman
There's a steel plate cross-member bolted between the two main members of the sub-frame holding the front end together.
It sits just below the radiator and just above the transmission casing.
Can anyone tell me what a typical clearance should be between this cross-member and the transmission casing below it?
On my car it's currently only about 1/4". Is this enough?
Any advice appreciated.
