Newsletter No 5, 2023 recently arrived. It contains a very interesting article by deceased member Stan Gilliland.
Stan talked about seeing an Cigarette Cream Westchester in Miami Oklahoma in the late 1950s. The car was still in the hands of the original owner a Mr Haufman.
The interior of the car was maroon woolen broadcloth. It was also a very low mileage car but not for sale at the time. The owner told Stan that he had bought the car early in 1937 from the Auburn dealer in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On page 36 of the Engineering Changes Book Cigarette Cream is listed as an "Additional Standard Paint and Trim Color for Open Models Only."
Maroon Laidlaw #738 - D trim was also a standard interior color.
Consequently this low mileage 1937 Westchester must have been a special ordered with a Cigarette Cream exterior.
Another special order car was written about back in 1998 in Newsletter No 3. The story goes a young guy was able to buy a brand new 1937 Cadet Grey Westchester that had a light grey interior for $600.oo It appears the car was a special order with a deposit taken then the deal fell through and the dealer was happy to get it sold.
Cadet Grey is normally associated with a dark blue interior.
Attached is the complete story of another special order.
