I am wondering what happened to the five Prototype Cords?
Reading Cord Complete on page 77 Josh Malks listed various up grades and changes to the five cars.
I thought the famous Copper Tone Cord in the Auburn Museum was the only surviving Prototype.
It was in actual fact a Hand Built Cord with Serial No 1021 A. Paul Bryant restored the car in the form of a prototype with in board headlights and low level windshields then donated to the Museum ............................. what a wonderful gift!
The company had a substantial investment in each of the prototypes so they were too valuable to scrap.
Does anybody have any information on what happened to these cars?
The attached picture was recently found on the Internet. It shows Dunn Motors, Capitol Hill, Seattle and was taken in 1937.
The Cord parked outside appears to be one of the Prototypes with its low level windshields and stainless steel grill trim. It looks like the Prototype driven to EL's home in LA. The 1937 picture shows the car with stone guards on the rear fenders and perforated hub caps which agree with the changes listed on page 77 of Cord Complete.
Oddly the Prototypes appear to have been sold on while a number of the subsequent Hand Built Cords were scrapped.
