I'm glad I have a Westchester, it's difficult enough working under the dash without the cross brace fitted to phaetons. For those who have not seen the cross brace before it can seen above the radio in the Balinwire phaeton dash / radio picture.

Attached is a picture showing the temporary installation of the radio in my Westchester. Unfortunately it is a bit blurred.

The picture will not load up. .................................. Will try again with a better picture tomorrow.
I managed to get my Cord out and go for a short drive today. Attached is the picture I promised showing the radio in my Westchester.
I should have cleaned the carpet first, it's amazing how easily bit of grass can collect.

I always thought the small round silver radio medallion was made like the cloisonné emblems on the front of the hood and taillight medallions were. They are fragile glued-on aluminum stickers, no wonder they are always missing.
This is a Philco from 1937. If any 80-year-old underdash radio is used I am impressed.

I just realized the sliding switch was a tone switch as in the old diagram you posted, of course, the tone switch would be in the center rheostat in the overhead speaker in the 255.
I remember the cooling louvers were good for letting rainwater out as it was installed under the wind vent, maybe not be a concern on the handbuilt with the filler neck.
Also, notice on the old drawing that the power wire to the control head has a jumper clip. I have seen this on other period drawings. I think they were afraid of shorts and overheating and a quick way to disconnect in an emergency.
These radios were newfangled things and misunderstood, even today they are complicated. when they worked they worked well but not as reliable as modern radios. My dad born in 1911 always bought cars with a radio delete plate.

in the last picture there seems to be another 455 peeking out from behind, can you post a picture of the inside tube layout, no id on the radio I posted with no switch, local distance, and the tube numbers are unreadable with a replacement Motorola vibrator. I can see why Cord went with Philco, a sturdier radio. Was Crosley part of the Cord empire?

I have a sheet stating the Cord sedan radio is a Crosley model A-255 but I also believe a Crosley model A-355 can be used. Here are pics of a radio I had rebuilt several years ago.

I am trying  to identify the model number of the radio in my 1936 Westchester. It appears to be the original radio with the CORD circle on the front but there is no other identifying information on it.  I am trying to find a SAM's FotoFacts for it.
