Pete, They had left overs from the fighter plane that didn't get built so the used them in the pistons.

Thanks Pete. All I could think about where the Invar was located was in the suspension system somewhere. Never once thought about the pistons. Good call.

Exactly where are these pieces of Invar in every Cord car? My first contact with Invar was in 2005. It was being used as a form for a top secret F23 flighter plane mold for the top side of the body and wing. It never came to be a flyable plane.

Jim, My dissection shows rivets holding the brushes to the brush plate. The actual pins the brush arms rides on is a bit different but it too is a kind of rivet. This has been an interesting engineering adventure. The material called Invar has no thermal expansion caricature but its difficult to find or work with.

Thanks for the rivet advise. I will be using Stainless steel rivets because I figured long ago this will work better. The large post that holds the brush arm in the end plate is made by me also. It has taken lots of engineering to do so too.

Sidenote: On a starter be careful to not paint the ends on the case parts - you want metal to metal contact so you have great grounding through to bell housing. Also, many club members on advice of Curt Schulze (via Auburns) have been going after better rivet connection for the brushes - and he is correct as amazing how a little rust and such causes issues (worked well when it was all brand new) - I believe he uses screws with lock washers (or perhaps drills through and uses small bolts/nuts) verses using rivets.

As many know, I have been working on generators for the 37 Cords..... This is a show of my progress so far. From left to right shows the progression of the restoration I'm capable of. Hope to have some ready for sale in the very near future. It has been a daunting task to say the least. But I enjoy the research and learning something new. Pictures like this have never been seen before nor has anyone seen them ever.
