I found this trans case yesterday on ebay. I suspect its an early case because it doesn't have the lock pin hole machined into the drivers side. Any opinions?

Gary it definitely is a very early gearbox case and probably from a Hand Built Cord. It does not have the Interlock hole that you mentioned on the RHS . Also it has an extra bolt on the LHS to hold the reverse idler shaft in place.
Attached is a page from Bill Bicknell's detailed article on hand Built Cords that can be found in The Reunion Book, No 2.
I have no idea why the picture ended up on it's side.

this is a listing for a three bolt carburetor intake, the photo from the hand built case shows a similar intake, it would be nice to see a list of the different parts used in the hand build's, are the thermostat housings cast iron?

In my previous email I made reference tp the detailed article on Hand Built Cords in The Reunion Book No 2 that was printed in 2010 by the ACD Club and which can be purchased from the Museum in Auburn.
In the article the variations are all listed.
Attached is a copy of that complete article by Bill Bicknell.

thanks for the link, the first ones were so interesting I have only seen one briefly and it preformed as well as the production model. The firewall was a giveaway and this seems not to have missed anything. I would like to see what a rear sway bar and a rezeppa joint, and a banjo wheel looked like.

There is a Hand Built Cord in Australia that has Serial No 810 1044 A
It has a banjo steering wheel however I do not know if it is original.
The car has not been looked after very well.
