John, This car has a top mounted fuel pump. The only thing this means is a non-supercharged engine. It could have been a 1936 or a 1937. The only way to tell a 1936 that was renumbered to a 1937 is by the serial number.

I remember that a few Chrysler 300s, 1960 or 61 I think, had a Pont a Mousson (sp?) 4 speed manual installed in place of the usual automatic. There was a little hammering necessary on those too

1937 was an interesting year for the 810 812 Cord. My research has shown you could have a 36 but renumbered in 37 as a 37 car. Then in 37 when the car was being made you had an actual 37 but an early car like mine would have the top mounted fuel pump. Just like a 36 or a renumbered 36.Then later on the side mount was used but you had to hammer massage the lower firewall area for clearance. I feel its a horrible way to make something fit. But its way down low and really not something a buyer is looking at.

Does anyone know its history- someone mentioned it being a renumbered 1936 via the block not being that of a 1937 via the fuel pump mounting ?
