I think there's a 4th variation on '32 dashes. My late 8-100A dash has the pattern screened on. I'd bet money its original. I t makes sense, as 1932 was not a good year for Auburn, I suspect they were cutting costs anyway they could.

Well you learn something new every day.

My '31 898 Std. has the crinkle finish style instrument cluster, so I know what that looks like first hand. Also I have downloaded quite a few pics of '31 & '32 interiors and have taken quite a few myself, but can't find any pics that look like what you describe for the 8-100A. So, Randy, what are most of the instrument clusters that I've seen pictures of in the 1932 8-100A's? Are they the original item that has been stripped of paint and then plated over all, or are they using the instrument cluster for a 12-cyl?

In 1932 there were three types of dashes used 8 100 std used a black wrinkle 8 100 A used a stamped pattern the high edge plated the background painted black,. The 12 160 used a metal turned dash panel that was all plated ,for both std and deluxe. Randy

The cars shown in the brochures with the painted (crinkle finish) were the Standard (8-100) level cars. The Custom (8-100A) cars usually had an engine turned finish which was chromed or nickled. Not sure which plating was original, but most cars now seen at the meets are the custom style. Both were original equipment, just depended on which level car you bought.

Just a question. In examining many 1932 Auburn 8-100A instrument panels I have seen some which are a brownish color, some chrome plated, and some machine tooled. Which is original? In the old photos I've seen, most appear to have a painted type finish.
