Anybody know how to title an old car? I have a 35 Auburn sedan that was picked clean of many parts and left out to die in the weather
It still has a good VIN tag on it. The former owner is long gone (40 years) and he didn't have a title or registration for it.
My starting point would be to get it registered somewhere, I think.

Check your state laws. Kentucky has a process to get a title for vehicles older than 25 years. Some states, like Georgia, didn't have titles back then so it's easier to get one now. Anyway, it depends on the state. I've been burned by a Title Service before, so I wouldn't recommend doing going that way without many good references.

Future Cord owner.

Thanks, Joe
I live in Illinois, but I know it's next to impossible deal with their laws. I think that I can get a registration in a state like Maine that
doesn't require residency...

In TN you can have a Mechanic file a mechanics lien then there are companies for a few hundred dollars who will run an ad to confirm no one claims the VIN then they will issue you a bill of sale and mechanics lien release that you can take to the DMV.

I also found this site broadwaytitle.com/index.htm , it is a little pricey, like $895 but they claim they can get you a title.
