Janine has compiles a list of the shock absorber updates from four different
factory sources. I am not able to add it here as the tables become scrambled. If anyone is interested in this data I would be happy to email it to them.

I parted a 653 brougham this fall #1077 it had Monroes all around.
I am beginning to think they changed the sixes and eights at roughly the same time.
6 cyl Delcos are p/n N10972 RF
N10973 LF
N10974 RR
N10975 LR

My 653 frame number 3389 has Monroe's all the way around.
This is a learning experience here !

My questions are this:
a) Are you sure the front shocks are original to the car?
b) There are numbers stamped into the end caps like 1746 what are your numbers
c) what is the frame numbers ?
Are the tube shocks Monroes or Spicers?

There is other information from factory documentation that Janine is currently putting together in reference to this subject.

Curt,
My 35 653 has lever action front, tube rear.
My 36 654 has lever action front and rear.
I know of another 36 654 that has lever action front and rear as well.
What does your 653 have?

Was there someone on the forums wondering if his car had had tube shocks added at a later date?

Mike, I didn't post about Delco's as the title of the thread is Tube Shocks.
Here is what I know about shocks:
N10586-87 Spicer 850Y to serial 2993
N10752-53 Monroe 850X
N10794-95 Monroe 652 The book says after 1883 ( but the 34 book started
653 with these p/n's
N10864-65 Monroe 653 ( a valving update) ( I think after 1883) *
N10586-87 Spicer 851 after 2994 ( valving update)
N10930-31 Front 851
N10932-33 Rear 851 After serial 2994 to the end

The factory switched valving around on Monroe shocks 653-654 at least a
dozen times All of this is documented in factory literature. I am not inclined to document it here. I have never came across a 653 or 654 with factory installed Delco lever action shocks.

Two different companies supplied tube shocks Monroe and Spicer in 1934.
eight cylinder cars got Spicers and sixes got Monroes. If you look at the parts book and the supplements, it is all there.
