Dave,
I chromed mine and then with fine steel wool took the bright off. They look great. Felt really funny doing it but the pieces ended up looking like they should.

Dave - Here's an old article I found from a Ford site:
www.fordgarage.com/pages/butlerfinish.htm
There's also another site with a 1998 thread about finding a shop that does this type of finish: www.ahooga-archives.com/messages2/7102.shtml
From reading the correspondence on these sites, it looks like the original Butler finish method was to abrade the substrate before applying a thin, final finish plating. An alternative method - which may not be acceptable to a judge - seems to be to apply the chrome as usual and then to lightly abrade it with a red Scotch-Brite pad on a buffing/polishing wheel.
Good luck!

How is Butler finish chromium done? was created by DavidK
Can anyone tell me how Butler finish chromium is done? On my 32, the inside hardware is suppose to be done this way. Are the parts chromed and then buffed with a Scotch Brite pad? From what I have seen, it looks like a satin finish. The chrome shop doesn't know what it is and I don't have a sample to show them. Any help is greatly appreciated. Dave
