if the oil filter wrench won't work...
My open car sat out in the open for an extended period of time. No way was the oil filter wrench going to work. There isn't a lot of purchase on the outer ring and it kept slipping off. I noticed that if you pushed the button al the way in and then sideways, you could access the edge of the lip that stops it from popping out. Took the dremel tool and carefully cut off the lip on each side at 180 degrees apart up to the visible part of the button. You can then slide the button out . When you put it back in you can't see the lip you cut off. You'd have to hit the button pretty hard and at a wacky angle for it to pop out again. risk of horn button escaping is pretty minimal IMHO. Pictures attached ( hopefully) showing surgery and what it looks like back in place.
My question is was the steering wheel painted or polished/buffed?I believe it is hard rubber. What is everyone finishing them with and how are you fixing nicks etc.

to remove horn button disasemble an oil filter wrench, the colapseable contracting kind with a band, and size it to your outer ring. Have someone hold it in place and turn. works like a charm.

Your horn button is spinning because the metal cup that it is threaded into has loosened up. The cup is normally held tight by the steering wheel retaining nut.

I had the same problem once with my 1932 and the following procedure worked.

Take flat a piece of thin spring steel 1/4 -1/2'" or so wide and jamb it down along side of the horn button hard enough to get it to bend inward and go under the metal cup. That should hold the cup tight enough to allow you to unscrew the horn button. Good luck!

I can take a picture of mine on the car, not disassembled. Will that work?

Can I get some photos of steering wheel horn button. Need to pull existing off, and want to replace horn button, with correct one. Current one is flat, and just spins in place. Will most likely need to break to get removed.
8-100 std cabriolet.

Thanks
