This is mine. There is only one layer paint at the frame - the Grey you can see. Looks very original, but I am not shure. Most are chromed...?

I still have to polish the inserts. Not shure how to do this best? Its made of brass?

Regards
Andreas

I think the 8-98A had engine turned inserts top and bottom on the flat sections.
The 89-8 had a black background on the top and a grey background on the bottom . The raised bead appears to be chrome plated.
Here are pictures of my unmolested 31 dash panel ( at least I think it is 31). The grey portion has almost a raised foil texture to it.

Regarding dash panel:

Does anybody know, how is the original finish of the dash panel frame of a 1931 8-98?
Mine was painted grey, looks totally stock. But all cars I see at pictures have a chromed frame!
Didn?t find any remaining signs of chrome at mine.
Possibly there is a difference between 8-98 and 8-98A?

Thanks
Andreas

There is at least 1 difference between early & late '32 eight panels. My late '32 has a flat panel with the crosshatched pattern painted (silkscreened) on. A friend's early car has the pattern stamped into the metal as Randy stated. This is the better one to have if you like shiney, as I can't polish mine. While my car was restored some years back, the dash remains original.

Gauge Panel was created by DavidK
Does anyone know what type of gauge panel a 1932 Auburn 8-100A Cabriolet should have. The parts book for the 8-100s shows two different ones. One has a diamond pattern. I don't know what the other type is. Did the 12 cylinder cars have a different pattern? What cars used the engine turned pattern? I have several Auburn books but few pictures of the dashes. I don't have a 12 cylinder parts book.
Also, the details and discription book says the Customs have a walnut finish instrument panel ( dash board ) and garnish moldings. Is this just on the closed cars?
Thanks for the help.
