Personally I liked the iteration on the Marmon chassis with open fenders best. That is a looooooong way from the windshield frame to the front of the radiator shell!

Good looking car now in black on the Packard chassis also.

It's amazing what happens when you give Fran Roxas a few hundred thousand dollars how nice a car turns out. It all looks the same to me, proportion-wise, especially the unique windshield frame. Has anyone seen a windshield frame like that on anything else?

The proportions of tail to fenders, the overall height of the body, and the shape of the doors all look different to my eye.

Chris
Why do you think it's a different car?

the very first car pictured is simply terrible! is it a boat tail/Tucker combo?
The Black packard conversion looks as if it was well thought out and executed. Are those Woodlights on it?
The yellow-tan machine has poor color choice, and does not accentuate ANY of the car.

I thought the black Packard was a different car than the Saunders speedster.

The artist drawing, in my opinion, did not precede the car. I have several pictures of this car, before and after it was built on a Packard chassis, and what it looks like today. Evidently it started out being built on a Marmon 16 chassis. I'd post the photos, but I don't know how.

The execution fell short of the artist's drawing

The speedster pictured below was built by Dick Saunders in up state NY in the 1940s. He took a Auburn Speedster body which he had mounted on a Marmon V16 chassis and placed it on a Packard 8 chassis which I believe previously had a conv coupe body on it. He then added a V12 engine from a sedan. There were other modifications including twin superchargers that was performed later.

This is a 1928-1929 style body and it was around in the 1980s but has not been seen since. Randy

Thanks again Randy.

Do you know anything about this early Auburn Speedster mated with a Packard?
This picture was published in a 1950's Trend Book "Classic Cars and Specials" by Robert Gottlieb.

I'm not too sure where I found these pictures, I think they are form ebay.
They all seem to be of the same car with different nose treatment.

In the first three photos the car has painted windscreen, white steering wheel, two exhausts coming out of each side of the hood,
two tail pipes and early 40's Chevrolet headlights.

Now different bumper, hood without exhaust pipes, front fenders incorporating headlights, Cadillac hub caps, two tone paint,
black steering wheel, chromed windscreen and spats on rear fenders.

How did air get to the engine???
