A few years ago I was at Hershey and met Jay Engler, when he saw I'd bought a can of Bill Hirsch's Auburn green engine paint, he told me to go back and change it for Packard green which was closer to the original Auburn colour. Jay's the 1931-1936 Auburn Club Technician.

That looks like a Ross steering box. Wouldn't that be black?

I thought they should be the same as the Auburn 12? the color on my block is pretty close to the color on TEQ's origianal 12's.

Replied by on topic more info on paint
Did a little google search and came up with more info. This is from the internet where we all know everything is always correct.... right? I would verify before using.

paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedi ... size=large

They have the paint code for DuPont Bell green as 93 546. Also gives a Ditzler code of 40648. The chip shown on this page is what my paint looks like. Remember... not all monitors show colors the same. Mine shows it as Bell telephone green, same as my engines.

Use this info with caution as I have not see actual paint.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Replied by on topic correct paint code......
Martin Senour paints available at Napa.

10130 is the correct code. I have compared this to my 4 original blocks and it matches. There will be another code in front of this number denoting the type of paint you use.... I have used the standard single stage with nice results. The paint store will help you with that info.

I'm sure you can get this converted to other paint systems if they have the correct cross reference. It's basically the old Bell Telephone green for what that is worth. Randy is correct, it's olive... I'm not sure anyone sells this proper color either.

Not sure why this information is so hard to come by.

Thats an important issue. I already asked for it in another thread.
In my opinion it is essential for the future of our cars and our club to make some restoration guide lines. Not a "how to disassamble....", but the basic facts as correct colors and platings, nuts and bolts, correct wood work, wheel sizes, and so on...
Some day the older wise guys are gone and nobody knows. The Club Technicians should collect all this knowledge if they are willing to share it.

Well, in the pix above, the blue would be deemed incorrect. The dark green would probably pass the Auburn judges. Colors viewed on the computer can vary alot depending on the monitor and the camera that took the pix.

I don't think the restoration guidelines will be come a reality until this web site is upgraded.

I would think you would be instrumental in making those calls for the L-29's It is a volunteer kind of thing.

I just ordered Bill Hirschs paint, assuming its the correct color.
Could anybody please tell us the correct paint manufacturer and/or color number?

Or is this a secret?

Randy, Would you be so kind to recommend the most correct paint manufacturer/paint number(engine heat tested) for the olive drab Auburn engine color? This information would be helpful to the community of Auburn owners. As always, everyone appreciates and values your advise to make sure things are restored as best a possible. Thanks again, Craig B.

Auburn V12 engine color was created by auburnandyscar
Greetings- I have looked and see that the 12's are a different shade of 'green' than the 8 cylinder cars. could anyone point me toward a mix\name\color recipe for the more olive shaded paint? The paint available from Bill Hirsch appears to be the std "Auburn green"
Thank you for your time.
