But it works. I took me many many hours and Euros.....
The Carter BB1 seems to be much more reliable.
My 2 cents.

I am considering putting an original up draft carb on my 1931 898A and I noticed the post that said that a vintage carburetor dealer said that they would not rebuild a Schebler Carb and they do not recommend using them. I was wondering if there is a better replacement carb that other members use.
A previous owner installed a ford down draft carb that does not run very well. I would like to go back to the original updraft type of carb. with original linkage. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good running carb that is close to the original?
Thanks,
TR

Fortunatly I own a SuperSonic Bath and I tried it before disassembling, because I didnt get the body parts apart. But it didnt help too much at cast iron. Usually it works better with alloy or pot metal.
Probably I will have to blast it with glass pearls to remove all the oxide.
Thinking about to fit a brass sleeve or silver soldering? Any experiences with "MuggyWeld" products?
Andreas
PS: I asked a professional vintage carb dealer for parts or complete carbs. He offered a core carb for 1200,-, and see what he states about the original Shebler carbs:
"We will NOT for ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY rebuild a Schebler carburetor. A really good investment for any vehicle using a Schebler carburetor is an automatic onboard Halide fire estinguishing system. These are best left to the enthusiasts building numbers matching show cars that will never be started, or museum cars that will never be started. Regards."
Is that true????

Very frustrating. Anybody any suggestions? Is it possible to repair the broken part. Or any chance to find another body?

Hello Andreas,
a good way to clean the inside (all bores and drains) of the carburetor is the use of an ultrasound/-sonic "bath" (Ultraschallbad).
There are several industrial service company which offer that as a service. May you find a service in your local "yello pages". I think a "Bosch-(Diesel)Dienst" is able to clean up your carb.
I don't know if the broken part could be welded some how. Here I found a link to a german "specialist" for pre-war Schebler (sidedraft) motorcycle carbs.
schebler-buchwald.de/index.html
Maybe he is able to weld/solder the broken part and to rebuild that kind of carb aswell.
Viel Erfolg!
Matt
