Most paint like you are using are good to 600 degrees. Since that is real close to exaust manifold temp. you shouldn't have to worry.

Thanks to everyone that has replied. We call 2K, 2-Pak in Australia. professionals may call it 2K but I've only ever known it as 2-Pak. Wasn't as a rule thinking of going down the 2-Pak road. It certainly would be the paint of choice for a briliant finish but certainly wasn't around in 1927. I've gone with on the chassis an acrylic gloss enamel which looks great and will let me sleep at night when thinking is the car original. Was concerned however that this stuff may burn when the brake drums start getting hot hence the question.

Thanks again.....

Kind Regards

Andrew

Hi Auburn653,

Back in 1980, when I had just gotten my derelict Cord, I had it judged in the park. There was so little of the car there that the judges got to take a breather in the course of their duties. I was advised informally afterwards that the Cord got 7 points--apparently one for each wheel present and one for each door. Nothing for the trunk lid--t'weren't there!

I haven't had it judged since.

I painted mine with a $1 spray bomb from Wal-Mart, and looks good after 8 years... not sure if the judges would like it (painted them white), but, if I ever had mine judged, I think I'd get the first negative score in history!

@ Andrew, 2 K is not the shade but the short for 2 composit paint.
( any color paint, plus hardner mixed in the right proportion ).

Henry Ford said : you can order any color ....... as long it's black !

Philip , Andreas,

Sounds great thanks. I take it you mean 2K in respect of the colour shade?

I'll go with engine enamel which does look great.

Another 666 I know of had his drums catch alight, not sure of the coating used here but thought I'd double check. Thanks again

...yes, 2K ist mostly well enough. If you are satisfied with engine enamel - this should be your choice. Exhaust paint is definitely not necessary.

I would say 2 k black for the backplate or powder coat is good enough
for the drums i usually use 2 K too , the drums should not get that much heat.
Otherwise you must change your driving style and use more the engine for braking. 2K does serve me well, up to now, i only use ovenpaint for exhaustcollector whitch is available in manny colors.
Just my 2 cent's

The more i know, the more i realize that i don't know enough.

Brake Drum Paint was created by 26-666
Hello Everyone,

I'm in the process of painting my wheels in order to get my wooden spokes done. I've tested two types of paint for the brake drums. Engine enamel rated to 250 F which looks great , and Hi temp paint (manifold Paint)rated to 1000F whichs looks terrible.
What paint, or finish would have come out of the factory in 1927?
What paint should I use?

Many thanks in advance

Andrew
