I do the same as Mike, it works very well, I've been using marine grease.

L-29 Cords used a grease cup to lub the water pump in latter models so grease should work fine. You should use water pump grease though.

The bijur also lubricates the water pump on the end of the generator. Do you think greasing this will also work just as well?

Andreas,
My guess is you have a Schebler updraft carburetor. The intake points towards the rear of the car. The air cleaner that is used is a simple round screen filter and the biggest problem you will have is to find the adapter fitting that goes from the carburetor inlet to the filter. The steering column is really close to the carburetor. The adapter slips into the carburetor, and comes up at an angle to clear the steering, with the air cleaner installed into the adapter. Fortunately for me, I have one on the Rum-Runner. However,I've noticed only a very few of these over the years. I seem to remember hearing someone say that this had either been an option offered by Auburn, or an aftermarket item. Regards, Bob Esten & The Rum-Runner

Thanks for all your input. I am not that purest about the Bijur, I will use grease fittings and remove the lines.
(BTW: Did anybody try to install a kind of central grease gun instead of the oiling pump? But probably no good idea , because the grease will not pass all fittings in the same amount.)

Regarding the the 2-speed: Yes - its not original, but its in my car. And I will not have to be judged with this car in Germany. I like to have everything in working order, regardless if its original or not.
My intention is possibly use in mountains, therefore shifting the 2-speed could be helpful, isnt it?

Well, keep in mind, in Germany we do not have these endless highways without much traffic like in the Great Plaines, though we have to shift pretty often <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) -->

I dont care too much about correct speedometer reading. What I am looking for is the vacuum control valve unit.

Further on I am missing an air filter at my carburator intake. Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Andreas

Andreas,

My Bijur jar contains a greenish 2 stroke motor oil, that I am told is close in color to the original Bijur Fluid. It is not working because, as Bill said, it makes a big mess. I remove the Bijur fittings one or two times a year, thread in a zerk &amp; apply grease, then put the Bijur fittings back in. The car hasn't been judged in many years so I don't know why I still bother, but I do.

As to all the controls you will need to hook up your two speed, keep in mind that since 1931's never had a 2 speed, if you were to have it judged by ACD judges, it would cost you. While it could be done if you could find all the pieces, I really think most people with '31 cars and a dual ratio make an accomodation for the speedometer and don't shift the rear axle.

What is behind the dash is basically a gearbox on the back of the speedometer that changes it's ratio and a rod that goes through the firewall and operates the various vacuum valves that shift the rear end.

Wish you good luck however you decide to go.

Andreas; We've been touring with the Rum-Runner for over 10 years, the Bijur lines are permanently unhooked with regular grease fittings in place. The Bijur system will provide lots of lubrication underneath the car, to the garage floor, and also parts of the car not requiring it. If you want to be a purest about this, hook everything up and every so often, remove the lines, screw in a grease fitting and give the car a grease job and reattach the lines.
I'm a little confused about the 2-speed, I thought the 8-98 was not available with a 2-speed rear end, perhaps someone can enlighten me on this. Regards, Bob Esten &amp; The Rum-Runner

How much do you value your garage floor? Most of the Duesenberg owners don't put oil in the bijur resevoirs because of the nasty drippage that develops. I'd go with zerks. or for more period accuracy, alemite fittings.

Bijur lubricator or grease fittings? was created by 61xlch
Dear Auburn friends,

I am missing the bijur lubricator at my 8-98.
Does anybody has a lubricator for sale?

Is there any problem with installing grease fittings/ nipples instaed the lubricator?

Further on I am still looking for all the shifting hardware for my 2-speed rearend, especially the control unit in the dashboard.

Thanks,

Andreas
