I think the top material used for this is more than one layer and basically waterproof. My car sits out in the rain every now and then (usually in Auburn), and it's never taken on water thru the top. If the weather report for Auburn looks bad for Labor Day weekend, I usually hit the top with an outdoor grade of Scotchgard or something like it.

I could see a problem with plastic. If water did seep through it would have no place to go, just site up there and rot the wood. You would not know it was leaking. I have never replaced a top like this so just a thought.

I will be replacing the canvas roof on my 8101A Brougham this year. Are there any tricks out there that will make the job easier ? Has anyone considered placing a sheet of plastic just under the canvas to help keep water from seeping through ? Thanks for all your ideas in advance.
