It did when I checked.

It sold for $176,000. Sounds like real car money to me.

Does any one know what happened to the speedster at Meadowbrook auction. It doesn't appear on the results list.

Can the vin number be established from the frame number, like a 34-36?

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I'm sure the Club has the info. The problem is that the Club cannot find the info without the car's VIN, which RM either doesn't know or isn't providing.

Dear all

Thank you for trying to solve the mystery about the cars origin. Unfortunately it dosen?t seem that I will be sure about the car before the auction already on saturday. But if anybody is knowing anything here in the last minute I will be very happy.

RM auctions writes that the car is certified by the ACD Club, but it seems like the club itself dosen?t have this info?

Once agian thank to your all!

Anders

I may have been confused. There was a replica-bodied Speedster project that they bought from Nadine Bools, that has already been sold. Perhaps my wires got crossed.

In any case I take Randy's word as gospel on all occasions. Although it still doesn't explain the apparent evasiveness on RM's part.

gentlemen , very interesting reading your dialogue on the R M auctions car (898 speedster) I too was interested in the cars integrity, and not being a USA resident and a fairly new member and knowing the car as some of you seem to wondered if you were willing to offer an opinion on the likely value if the car was not an original. or what percentage difference it might be.
I note that the value guide is $130 to $160K. which does seem lower than some values I have sighted previously for Speedsters.
There are some varying opinions about this car which may be clarified by someone. I guess then we will know better whether we are bidding on a real or what seems to ba good repro

Guys you might want to be a little more careful with this one as it won everywhere in 1973.And it is coming out of Wisc to my knowledge not Ohio. To my knowledge it is real. Randy Ema

A friend called RM this morning and confirmed that it is an all-steel replica body on an original 8-98 chassis. This is one of the cars that RM purchased from Bill Bools's widow.

Hi mike

Thank you for trying to contact them! It is strange that such a professional company dosen?t seem to bother selling their cars! These Auburns is famous for being rebulit as Speedsters and it should be quiet basic to have this knowledge for RM Auctions.

It is sad becuase I really wanted to own a originally Auburn 8-98/8-100 Speedster. - In my opinon the most beautiful Speedster ever built!

Best regards
Anders

Even with my limited (zero) experience in buying old cars, that would be the point where I stopped wanting the car in question.

Hi Anders, I called RM Actions to get the VIN. no. and they could not provide it. They told me there was no vin. no. in 1931 which is not true. Without this no. there is no way to confirm the Certification of the car. I am not saying it is not certified, just that there is no way to verify that. They said the engine no. was GU36876. Sorry I couldn't help you further.

Auburn 8-98 Boattail Speedster was created by abo1978
Hello

There is a 1931 Auburn 8-98 Boattail Speedster for sale at RM auctions.
Please see the link:

www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cf ... eCode=MB08

As I read the text it should be an original Speedster and not a rebodied Speedster. I have tried to write to RM auctions but they do not write back. Can anybody tell me if this Speedster orginally is born as a Speedster?

Thanks in andvance

Best regards
