Basic 1935 6 cylinder.
Black and red may be a luck of the draw!

Thanks Mike, I have a few MAB4063 , they are red as well. I still have a question about the color of the GAR4603A supercharged Auto-Lite generator tag.

Hi Curt, Just had occasion to remove the starter off a 35'36. The tag was red. It is very deteriorated so it probably is orig.
Will be in LaCross next week going on the Gliden Tour. Will drive the L-29 and cross on the ferry.
CORDially Mike

Yes it does help Terry. Now we have two folks that have black tags on the GAR 4603 generator.

There are two six cylinder MAJ 4033 starters, one with a black tag one with a red tag. This is confusing to me.

There is an old timer that is quite familiar with AutoLite told me that they would put different color tags on equipment at the customers request.

In the case of distributors:
The 1934 850X had a different advance curve IGP4002A was a black tag. The 850Y IGP4002 has a red tag. Externally they looked identical.

In 1935 & 36 the s/c distributor IGH4027 had a black tag, while the IGP4002 carried forward with a red tag.

My thought is the starter motors did the same. It was easy for the guy on the line to put the correct equipment in the car.

Now possibly the GAR4603A s/c generator had another color tag?

Yes, the AutoLite generartor tag on s/c cars is GAR 4603A. It is my opinion that the drive and comutator end plates are the same, The difference is the s/c cars hve a double pulley on the generator.

Are there any other folks that have original tags?

6 cyl. Starter (MAJ4033, w/Startix) - Red tag
6 cyl Generator (GAR4603) - Black tag

Both the above off of "early" '35. Date codes on axles, tranny, etc. are from mid '34.

I have the following part numbers listed in my "references":
Starters:
MAJ4032, 34-36 model 652X, 653, 654
MAJ4033, 34 652Y
MAB4063, 34-36 850, 851, 852

Generators:
GAR4603, 34-36 All
GAR4603A, Supercharged (different endplate).

If there is anyone out there that has an original 1934 - 1936 Auburn AutoLite generator GAR 4603 with an original tag and there is any paint color left on it all, what color is it?

I am also curious about the tag color of 1934 - 1936 Auburn six cylinder starter motors
MAJ 4032 with out Startix
MAJ 4033 with Startix.
