I have the chance to buy a 1927 Auburn Roadster

I don't have the number off of the frame yet.
It's an older restoration that's been sitting in the hayloft of an old barn since the early '80's. I'm really interested in bringing this old girl back out into the sunshine, but would like to learn more about this model. How many of these roadsters were made, and how many are still around? The owner tells me that the engine has been replaced with the later '32 8 cyl. engine, would this be the 98 hp?
Any info would be appreciated,
