1934-6 Auburn Piston question

On the skirt of the piston of the 1934-6 Auburn there was a tension spring on the inside attached to the split side of the piston. Has anyone seen these and did they try to replace them as they loose there tension over the years. If you have removed end reinstalled these springs how did you do it and what kind of tool did you use. I believe the springs were used to stop piston slap ! Can you still buy the springs?
