You can actually leave it loose - just shove it rear-ward for driving. I believe originally it was riveted to the top pads originally (mine have been tapped for a # 8 screw). You could probably also do some sewing of it to the pads as an easier repair.

Hello all together
As mentioned before, we have prepared our 851 for winter and we have closed the softtop. As you know, opening and closing the soft top is not a 5 minute job, so we close the soft top in october or november and open it in march or april.
In the mean time we know most what to do in order to have most parts in correct position.
There is only the one bracket in the rear compartment which is not in correct place.
Please see attached photo. Any idea about correct position and how to fix it?
