When soldering the diode, NEVER put an open flame on it.

The cutout is the source of many burnt up wiring harness. I suggest a diode
replacement. Modern vehicles use them.

Perhaps edit title to: Generator 3rd brush adjustment on a X year Auburn if you are seeking higher output - I believe the air gap on the regulator is just a set it and it works or it does not work (ie it is not an adjustment for more power).

What do you know about adjusting the cut out. Air gap? Contact gap? What is best way to test? As I increase RPMs, voltage appears to increase.
