I recall this from a few years ago. Sorry but no relation to me or my family.

A couple of corrections and one clarification.
IS: "Graham
Should be: Gram, short for Ingram aka Cecile Ingram Connors.

Lyrics should read: "Watched and checked on every single day
Building his own special cars His very special way".

The new soft shoe is a metaphor for a new dance, soft sole shoe with no taps. Or a new way of performing.

Gram Parson Cord song was created by balinwire
I have recently rediscovered a songwriter that I used to hear play live music venues in the Los Angeles region in the early seventies, by the name of Graham Parsons. The young Emmylou Harris was a singer in the band.

The song "New Soft Shoe" got a lot of airplay before he died. I had never heard the subliminal line about Cord before in many listenings.

There was a mention of the songwriter?s composition at Joshs visitor section website that ?New Soft Shoe? was about the Cord.

I retrieved the song and played it and sure enough the lyrics in the first few bars were,

?It was forty or fifty years ago, a big shot played with time.?

?Mr. Walker held the door and both kept Cord in line.?

?Watson checked on every single day?

?Building his own special car, his very special way.?

?Oh, the new soft shoe?

I have no clue what the ?New Soft Shoe? means but it is definitely a mention of Cord trivia.

There are several more verses and another three minutes of music on the song but no more references to Cord.

In the liner notes it mentions, Parsons' most enigmatic song begins with a verse about the maker of the Cord automobile, then tumbles together images of the old and new south (shoeshine boys and shopping malls, old-time hucksters on color TV) into an indecipherable heap."
