I am interested in knowing the exact production numbers for the Duesenberg auto and finding out how many of those numbers are identified and located and how many are known to be gone or are lost? Thank you.

The exact numbers will probably always be contested, but here are the numbers I have heard most commonly reported for J's:

Total- 481
SJ's- 36
JN- 8
SJN- 2
SSJ- 2
168" J- 1

That leaves 424 J's, varying in wheelbases (142.5" and 153.5"). As far as surviving Duesenberg's are concerned, I have heard that the number hovers around 350. Some of the problems with this data, is that some J's have had superchargers installed and the factory never really used any of the names you see above. In actuality, the only model that Duesenberg produced after 1927 was the J, the SJ, JN, SJN, and SSJ were all names given by outside companies and individuals.

Thank you Duesy for answering my questions regarding the production numbers of the Duesenberg cars. A follow-up question. What is the likeli-hood of finding a previously unknown or "lost" car today? Thanks, Don.

This sounds somewhat hard to believe, car from productions numbers of less than a dozen have gotten lost, accounting for 481 cars would be AMAZING to say the least. I do know that not to long ago a Duesenberg J chassis was found in South America being used as a tractor.
