Admin-
Thank you. That rear view is a big help. I can't wait to start a scale model of it.

I tried the link again and can't get it to work like it did last week, either. Going to the main website and searching didn' find it, either, so I guess they managed to take it down since I posted it. Sorry.
Have a good flight!

Thanks guys.
CMHS- I can't get your link to work.
Kevin-
I can't wait to start that model. I want to make a resin copy of the main body piece, then use it to make other boattail Duesies..or maybe sell a few. When I get home, I'm going to try making hand-laced wire wheels for my 1/24 Duesenbergs. I have a feeling I'm going to break a lot of tiny drill bits, but it will all be worth it if it works out.
Hey if you're into building the models, I have resin copies of the hood sides that have arc-shaped louvers. It's off a diecast and looks really nice. You'll need to add about .125" or so to the length. (I had them copied "as is" so I could use them on other classic cars. Just adjust to fit whatever car. One set is on Jo-Han's '31 Cadillac Town Brougham. The hood sides in the Jo-Han Caddys are awful.)
Paul- I have that book, along with Fred Roe's and J.L. Elbert's. Unfortunately, I'm 9,000 miles from home in Afghanistan. But hey....only 7 more days 'til I fly. Woohoo!
Thanks again. Lee

Having never seen the Monogram model, I provided numbers for the photo car.
Kevin, I was looking for the original owner of J-120--thanks!

I believe the Monogram model is actually based on the only LWB Murphy Torpedo Roadster. J-120-2354. Originally built for George Whittell, who owned numerous Duesenbergs in the day. Whittell cars are distinctive because he added chrome hood side doors, and tool/battery box doors.
There is a great picture of the car on the orange Automobile Quarterly.
There were only 5 SWB versions.
It's a great model, have fun putting it together.

Car #2221/J-198--Murphy Disappearing-Top Torpedo Convertible Coupe, the second of six built. Restyled by George Thurmond in the 1930s but restored back to what you see here by Rick Carroll c. late 1980s.
SEE BELOW FOR UPDATED LINKS
Copy & paste into address bar and go. Gives you a rear view of the same car.
Also, when I went to the ACD Museum a couple of years ago they had leftover copies of a memorial booklet for Gordon Buehrig, filled with pictures of Duesenbergs--many of them from the side, which I assume are the ones you need for your models...They're not on their website but maybe the museum still has a few copies for sale.
