In the background is the original piece from behind the rear seat, it has thick black lines.
To the RHS is the sample supplied by Rick Hulett which has thin black lines with a finer pattern.
At the lower LHS is the material I made up. It is based on the original sample but I made the lines too thin. I was not looking at the bigger picture at the time. With care I can salvage the job by redrawing the lines thicker.
So we have two distinct line patterns, one with thick lines in early production cars and one with fine lines in later production cars.
I believe the background colour was all the same. The sample of the original material in the picture has faded a lot.
My Cord has Serial No 1586 A, I have no idea when the line pattern changed.

Thought I would capture and post pictures of the trunk fabric in my 812 Beverly. No idea if it is original but sure looks like it to me. Hope these can be of some help.

While Gai and I were in the Auburn Hospital in 2018 Zoey was in the Grand Parade with her friends the Butler family. She had a ball in the Butler's 1919 Auburn tourer.
I have already experimented with redrawing the lines and think it will work out ok.
The attached pictures show Zoey on the left with Taylor on the right

When I suggested to my wife that I could remove the lining panels and redo the lines to widen them ................. she replied "DON"T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!"
I guess it stays.

body. This can be accessed by removing the spare wheel but that is a chore. I modified my trunk shelf so that it has a removable section in the RHS above the void. It is hidden away by the carpet over the shelf.
To access the compartment you just have to pull back the carpet and remove the lid. There is a lot of space for a screw jack, modern hub cap removing tool, heaps of other tools and spares. I also fitted a small panel so that the stored items would not damage the fuel tank filler sleeve.
This leaves the rest of the trunk free for everything else or clear for car shows.

Thanks for posting these pictures. There is only one Beverly that I know of in Australia and it has been customised to some extent. Others will have to comment on these pictures.
Can you add a picture of the inside of the trunk lid please???
Thanks,

I stand corrected. There are 2 jute panels, one on the back side of the rear seat with lines facing forward, and another at the front of the trunk with lines facing rearward. I will have to make sure I refresh my memory by looking at what I did before commenting the next time.

Check the attached layout diagram.
On another note I made a drawing of the wires that pass through the head lining which is full size and can be used to make new stays in stainless steel.

I am surprised however that the lines show on the back side of the rear seat as Rick told me, and his installation instructions say, that the lines should face forward on that piece of material with the raw jute showing in the trunk. Since he didn't have a source for the raw jute he said just turn the piece so the lines face forward.

Rick , trying to make a buck specializing in interiors, was at the same time extremely free with his knowledge and time, to individuals trying to restore their cars. Hats off to that attitude.
I can see that gathering restoration info is generally popular with those that read and replied to this forum. Is there also a more widely read forum that would reach more eyes?

This looks like the original trunk lining material that has faded with time and new carpets. This trunk lining has a fine line spacing.
I saw another Cord in the park in 2018 with the same material. I took some pictures of the lining but can't find them. I will keep looking.
Found them! Rick Hulett told me this greyish material had faded a lot and was originally the colour shown in the attached small sample in the last picture.
In the park I just happened to be photographed while taking my pictures.

I also think we should add an original factory photography and new car photography page divided into A, C , & D and grouped by key model years (ex Auburn 1934 - 1936) - I would be pleased to moderate such.

Yes, I have been very fortunate with the amount of original material my Cord contained plus the help of many fine members of our club some of whom are no longer with us to restore my Cord. Rick Hulett shared with me a wealth of information on original Cords that he photographed over many years. I have everything he sent me stored in emails. It is there for others to use too. I suppose we do need somebody to collate it all. I am open to suggestions.

You are very lucky to have a car that hasn't been messed with. There are very few out there with as much original material as you have. Most people would have had to go to Rick to get as much info as was still in your car.
At the Auburn reunion this year I talked with one of our directors about what the club might be doing to start gathering up any information such as Rick had in his many original pics of details of the interior and trunk trim that is invaluable when trying to restore a Cord. The reply was to the effect that I should compose an article to send to the editor of the Newsletter on this subject to garner support for club moving in this direction.
This was a disappointing answer for me. It seems like a no-brainer that this info needs to be preserved for the good of the club and the members, to more easily allow the members to restore and preserve their cars, I believe the Directors and elected officers need to take the initiative now before Ricks and others files are lost.

There were some remnants of the original striped lining in the compartment under the front seat, behind the back seat and in the trunk lid. Both have the wider spacing. I have not taken a picture of the panel behind the rear seat but it does have the sam pattern.
Rather than have a long narrow strip of the striped material just under the jack shaft I made it wider and slid one side under the bottom metal cover of the trunk opening. I think the sample I have originated from Rick but it was sent to me by Tom Georgeson a long time ago. My Cord is an early production unit with Serial No 810 1586 A which probably accounts for the different pattern. My car had never been restored so I don't think the striped material had been changed.

Rick Hulett has been the recognized interior expert for many years. The sample you show looks like one I got from him earlier this year. Did you also get carpet and striped material patterns from him?
I recently installed one of his trunk kits in my phaeton. The stripped material is a burlap adhered to a jute backing about 1/4 - 3/8 inch thick. This material was only attached to the side walls, back of the rear seat, and inside of the trunk lid which was also trimmed with the interior leather. A beige carpet covers the trunk floor on the left side of the spare and a separate piece also is on top of the shelf over the spare tire and draped over the rear of the spare down to 2 snaps just inside the trunk lid. There is no stripped material attached to the trunk floor.
I believe Rick indicated that all the trunk carpet material, except for the the cabs, was the beige material.
He did not mention differences in stripe width with manufacture date in my emails and phone conversations with him.

Recently I took the rolling body to a car show in Sydney where it generated quite a lot of interest. Most people here in Australia have never seen a Cord let along up close and inside the trunk.
